Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

My system has been cranking out the points lately and shows no sign of quitting. I will admit that it’s getting quite toasty in this room; last night the temp was about 78 F, and at midnight I turned on the window A/C for a little relief.

I don’t know if I’ll stay in this spot for long - it looks like I’ve got a few teammates nipping at my heels! I’ve got a ways to go to catch #7, but 9th through 12th don’t have far to go to catch me...

Awesome job, team ! Keep it up!

As well as we’re doing right now, there’s a team that’s really catching up to us and will overtake us in a day or so:

Kinja'd!!!

“My Playhouse” seems to be loaded with processing power and they’ve been catching us up very quickly considering they only started on April 20th. Leibniz University Hannover is interesting in that there’s one user that has pretty much all the point production, but I don’t know if they’re using some sort of crazy supercomputer or if it’s a bunch of computers sharing the same name/passkey, but that user name has a 14M 24hr average point production, which is crazy...

Kinja'd!!!

My climb up the list is definitely slowing and eventually we’ll settle into our spots based on how much we fold daily. Deemer and ForeverLurking have high 24hr averages so they should be catching up to you soon!

We just passed the 2 million mark today. We blew a socket in the wall yesterday, but that was more a matter of a shitty old socket with a loose wire. We have redistributed the power draw of the three computers onto two circuits, but I might be running on medium more than full going forward.

Does medium/full affect the GPU processing? I noticed that changing those modes would drop/increase the number of CPU threads being used, but my GPU is pretty much pegged at 95+ load regardless of whether I use medium or full.

Only other thing I could suggest is dropping CPU folding altogether - my CPU on full load was using 80+ watts constantly while only producing about 30k/day (if I was lucky) whereas now I’m only using GPU and my daily points total looks pretty much the same.

My HDMI port started acting up and I wonder if the entire system is a bit heat-soaked right now. I’ve been doing some troubleshooting to see what’s up but I’m on a mini hiatus and I only do one WU a day. Granted, it still tends to be a 150k+ unit so it’s not small potatoes, but I am backing off for a bit until I can make sure the system will take it.

Odd place to put this but... have you tried playing your horn through a mask? Wanted to link the live stream of this Czech Phil concert here but the page was throwing an error.

That’s a little odd; have you isolated the problem to the HDMI port? Have you tried the other ports like DVI or Displayport, if available?

Before I got my CPU cooler the system would just fully lock up due to the CPU hitting 100 degrees, and my old GTX 760 was running around 90 degrees.

Even just cleaning up the graphics card of dust can help, but it’s hard to tell. Do you use a temperature monitor as well? I’ve had my PC running continuously for the past few days and my GPU has pretty much been pegged at 77 degrees the whole time.

I’m not going to win any awards here, so I’m just happy that I broke into the top 300,000. That puts me in the top 11 % Which is pretty good for an old server!

Monthly Team shows us in the 300s, so we should keep climbing, although at a lower delta.

Does medium/full affect the GPU processing?

No idea. I’m not a computer guy. Definitely worth checking out dropping the CPU.

I have not. That would suck. I have wondered, though, how far my potentially disease-laden breath is projecting out of the trumpet. And I sit directly in front of the trombones, who are probably projecting twice as far as I am.

I haven’t played trumpet in a long time, but if the disease is anywhere it’s in that spit valve.

Check what the estimated PPD is for your CPU and it’s very easy to disable in the “advanced control” settings. It takes a lot of the heat out since my CPU when folding is mid 70s whereas with it disabled it runs at a nice mid 50s. My understanding is that the CPU still has something to do with how the GPU folds (it uses a single thread, my CPU has eight) so it still has a bit of a load even if you disable CPU folding.

But now you know you can just put a sock over the bell and stand 2m away from ever yone while you play.

Just imagine the recombative energy the flutes can get going.

It doesn’t, it only affects CPU workload.

L ight  CPU is Folding at half speed, GPU Folding is off.

Medium  CPU is Folding at three-quarter speed. GPU Folding is on. This is the default setting, and recommended for most users.

Full  CPU is Folding at full speed. GPU Folding is on. This is the most productive setting. Will cause fans to run faster and may produce more heat.

Playback of files on my hard drive is fine normally, but when HDMI is plugged in, both the external screen and the file on screen seem to stutter and lag compared to audio. Zt least, when I’m folding or not long after folding. It’s fine now. But it didn’t do that when I first started folding.

IT’S NOT A SPIT VALVE. IT’S A WATER KEY.

I don’t recall ever having heard that one before. Not saying that I was never told, but I definitely don’t remember.

The vast majority of the water that comes out of a brass instrument is from the moisture in your breath that condenses inside the cooler metal of the instrument. I’m not saying there’s no spit in there, but it’s mostly water.

Leibniz University Hannove r looks like they are either using a few servers or maybe some engineering or graphic design systems on the same account to fold, I could see someone setting up something like that easily.
